1/ WORLD CLASS COMMUNICATION is KEY TO SUCCESSThe PRIORITY is to CREATE and MAINTAIN a SUPPORT NETWORK (communicate regularly on SKYPE with > parents, coaches, professors, teammates, ..).

3/ USE EFFICIENT STUDY SKILLS
Take notes, study for exams, work with friends, etc ..

4/ WORKOUT ALONE or WITH TEAMMATES BEFORE and/or AFTER PRACTICES with YOUR COACH
Do a minimum of 300 shoots/day, fundamentals, lift weights, swim, bike, run, stretch, etc ..

5/ MANAGE YOUR TIME WISELY
90 % of your time should be dedicated to academics and basketball/sports, set daily and weekly schedule and stick to it, etc ..

6/ STAY HEALTHY
Eat right, drink a lot of water 24/7, no junk food, no sodas, sleep at least 9 hours/night, if possible do a 45' nap after lunch, etc ..

10/ STAY COOL and POSITIVE ALL THE TIME
Always remember that you have the extreme privilege to be an american student athlete i.e. you are part of a world class elite > In Europe & India less than 0,1% of the teenagers of your age group will have the opportunity to study in the US.

SURVIVE FRESHMAN YEAR

"Establishing a support network and getting involved in campus life are critical factors in surviving your freshman year."There is no such thing as a "typical" freshman. Students face many challenges when they're fresh out of high school.

College is much more difficult academically. College life can be a big social adjustment. Many students are living on their own away from home for the first time. With so many new demands, managing one's time can be difficult.Success means managing classes, study time, jobs, and social activities effectively. Just as there are many challenges, there are also many ways for freshmen to increase their chances for succeeding in college.

1. GET INVOLVED

Any students drop out of college or have difficulties due to isolation from peers and staff. Involvement in clubs, organizations, study groups, etc. often makes the transition from high school to college easier.

By talking with peers, you will be able to support one another during this crucial time. Communicating with staff and professors will help you plan your academic path.

It's important to cooperate and interact with people both socially and academically. Many clubs and organizations are offered for students, including: student government, cultural organizations, community activities, sports, and study groups. Contact Student Services to get more information about the activities available at your college.

2. DEVELOP STUDY SKILLS

College courses present a great challenge to most freshman students. Not to mention it can be difficult to study effectively while managing changes in your social life. Therefore, developing effective study habits will often determine a student's success in college.

If possible, work with other students in your classes. Start your own study group or see if one already exists on campus. Many colleges have a learning center that offers study skills and strategies. If possible, take college prep classes in high school. If you already have good study habits, the transition from high school to college will be easier.

3. MANAGE TIME WISELY

One of your best resources in college is time. It's important to budget it effectively. College students have to balance class time with studying, an active social life, and often job responsibilities.

Effective time management will help you to set reasonable goals and to succeed.

One of the best ways to manage your time is to establish a structured schedule. This can be a chart that you create that indicates when you go to classes, study, enjoy social activities, work, eat and sleep, etc. For more information, read R. Fred Zukor's article, " Time Management : I'll Stop Procrastinating Tomorrow ".

4. SEEK GUIDANCE

For many students, going to college is their first time away from home. The pressure of college life can be very demanding. If you need help, seek guidance. Ask for help from academic advisors and upper classman, and talk to others who are used to college life. Many resources are available for students who need academic assistance.

Visit an academic advisor to help plan your future and learn what classes you need to take. Investigate different colleges and what they require by visiting a Career Center. Talk to professors and teaching assistants for help with specific courses.

If you need additional help, see if there is a tutoring program available. Students need to take responsibility for their choices and actions. It's important to maintain relationships with advising and dean staff.

Seek guidance for problems sooner than later.
